Our Ambassador, Greeters and Mascots

Lucy - our Avian Greeter and Ambassador
Lucy the Cockatoo

Lucy is a 14 year old Umbrella cockatoo.  She came to us as an adoption bird because her caregiver was ill and no longer able to take care of her in the manner she deserved. Lucy was struggling with depression due to the major changes in her life and had plucked most of her feathers out. She was somewhat shy and fearful when she first arrived, but has blossomed into the most loving and affectionate bird. She now spends her days greeting our clients and trying to convince even the most skeptical of "non bird people" that birds are the greatest thing on earth. She will sidle up and reach for you if you give her the chance and lets even the smallest of children stroke her beautiful new feathers. She works very hard and occasionally gets to enjoy a slumber party with her other mom Carol Flores. If you haven't met Lucy, stop by and let her show you how wonderful birds can be!

Romeo - our Hall Monitor and Alarm System
Romeo the Cockatoo

Romeo is a teenage male umbrella cockatoo. He came to us from a family that was moving out of the country and their new home had strict regulations on birds entering their country. Romeo is beautifully feathered and unike some cockatoos, he does not suffer from any sort of mental anguish. He knows he is the bomb! He spends his days guarding the doorways from his perch when he is inside and making sure that nobody enters the back gated area of the hospital when he is outside enjoying sun. If someone approaches he sounds the alarm! He has a great big loud alarm but we love him dearly.  If you have never seen a bird dance to the music, stop by sometime and Romeo will show you some new birdy dance steps!

Stringbean - our Security Guard
Stringbean

Stringbean is a Dusky Conure that was sent to us as an adoption bird from the Lily Sanctuary in Orange County. Little did we know when we took him in that it would be us that adopted him! He quickly worked his way into our hearts and our lives. He is desperately in love with Erin our CSR team leader and if he feels she is in danger (which usually means somebody is standing with in 20 feet of her), he will firmly give her a nip to warn her of impending doom! For this we have honorably named him our security guard. He allows the rest of us to treat him like a king and will sit with us, but his one true love is Erin. Next time you stop in the hospital ask Erin what the little green feathered thing attached to her uniform has to say.
