Imaging (radiology/ultrasound)
 |
The Imaging Center at Mission Animal & Bird Hospital is truly state-of-the-art. With our new digital radiology unit, we no longer use x-ray film nor toxic developing chemicals. When the image is taken by the Xray machine, it appears on our high resolution monitor in less than 3 seconds. With the digital capabilities previously only found in certain human hospitals, our doctors and xray technicians can adjust the contrast, lighten or darken or even change the magnification of the images. This means that fewer images must be “retaken” and therefore there is less radiation exposure to the patient and staff. Changing the contrast and magnification can sometimes allow the doctors to see lesions, such as small tumors, that were not previously seen with plain xray film. This equates, of course, into earlier diagnosis and treatment. Lastly, the digital image is available for you to view on the web on the following morning and can be sent instantly, via the web, to veterinary specialists anywhere in the world.
With our sophisticated Ultrasound Unit, our doctors can not only do pregnancy checks but also look at the size, shape and consistency of internal organs. Unlike X-Ray imaging, with ultrasound, we can see the valves and the chambers of the heart as well as into the center of organs, such as the liver and kidneys. Ultrasound is also used to help the doctor locate specific areas from which to take an internal biopsy. Finally, these images can also be sent to specialists, anywhere in the world, who can often get back to us in several hours with their findings. Early diagnosis and treatment increases the chances of a successful outcome when treating you pet. |
